Morning walks

It is tough to get JJ out of bed in the mornings, he would rather sleep in and skip our walks through the desert. Every morning dad takes us on a hike through the Quartzsite desert, usually a couple of miles. It takes us about an hour. JJ likes it once he is out there.

Another day of adventure in Arizona

Today we all went from Quartzsite to Yuma. Stopped at a produce stand and bought some local fruits and veggies. Then we drove to Yuma Penitentiary where they were having a gunfighter competition that was lame. The prison isn't open anymore. It closed on 1909 and is now open for tours which don't allow dogs, also lame. Mom & Dad & Grandpa went through the prison while Grandma stayed with us and Levi in the car. Then on the way back home we went through the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge which is totally open to dogs and is very cool. We walked around and saw a coyote and a roadrunner. It was a great adventure. We all had another fun day.

Adventures in Quartzsite

I'm having a great time in Quartzsite. The weather is perfect, about 70 degrees and sunny. Mom bought me Doggles today so the dust won't bother my eyes. Yesterday we went to Palm Springs and Cocoa got a new dress. The boys are having fun just hanging out. I was so happy to see mama come back. We were all happy to see her. I think tomorrow we are going to Yuma.

Quartzite, Arizona

We made the long road trip to Quartzsite. I am really busy with supervising the tent set up, barking at other dogs and sniffing around.
The weather is nice and warm, like summer at home. Big problem is that there is no grass here, just dirt. I miss my backyard already.

A Makeover

Not for me, for my blog. Mom & I went through some recent photos and picked out some for the new banner at the top of the blog. What do you think? Now it includes pictures of all of us. More of me than the others but I like my picture taken so we have lots to choose from.

Speaking of having my picture taken, yesterday we all went with mom & dad to a holiday bazaar and some guy asked if he could take our picture. Of course! The holiday bazaar was at the Rockaway Beach City Hall, we were hiking down to the beach and stopped by the bazaar to shop. We got three new fleece quilts and some homemade treats. One lady makes cute little charms for dog collars and even though she didn't have one that Cocoa liked, she is going to make one for her and have it at the store so we can stop in when we come back and pick it up for her. "Pink and Sparkly" was Cocoa's request.

We walked on the beach - JJ & I love to chase each other and play in the sand. It is a long walk back up to the house and we are all tired afterwards so we napped. We are at the beach for a couple more days and then it will be back to work.

Hiking to the Beach

Last Sunday we all decided to go for a walk to the beach. It was pouring down rain when we left but the rain doesn't bother me at all. JJ doesn't like it at all, mama had to carry him until the rain stopped but then he walked too. We walked down the road that winds down the hill and walked out onto the beach. There were lots of people and other dogs but we were all too busy checking out the piles of seaweed and driftwood to really notice much. We had so much fun running and playing and chasing each other on the beach. Then we turned around and walked back up the big hill. It was a great walk and I hope we get to do it again.

When we got back home mom fed us some special treat food and then we all rested and took naps.

What a life! New chew bones, a soft fleece blanket and a beautiful sunny day at the beach. I am missing from this picture because mom won't let me steal ALL the chew bones for myelf. She keeps me on the sofa with just one chew bone. She says it is called 'sharing' but I don't really like it.

The puppies are three weeks old now, their eyes are open and they are trying to walk. It won't be long until they are running around, I can't wait! I want them to play and chase me around the house. Cocoa gets a little nervous when I'm sniffing them and kissing them.

Summer Update

Mom just reminded me that the last time I updated my blog was the beginning of June! I don't want to lose my faithful readers so I think it's time I give you an update of what has been going on.

Work - Cocoa and I continue to go to work with dad everyday. We really enjoy the routine and seeing all of our friends everyday. We love that they bring us treats and visit us every day. We are lucky dogs.

It has been busy lately with moving stuff in and out. We went to the antique show with mom & dad and grandma & grandpa. It was Cocoa's first time there and I had to work really hard to keep her safe, everyone wanted to pet her and well, I don't really like a lot of strangers.

We ran into this guy at the antique show. I wasn't afraid at all, he did smell kind of funny.

Lots of playing, running, visiting with friends, playing in the pool, helping dad with the landscaping and gardening at home, BBQing, you can see why I haven't had much time to update here. When I have some down time, I like to relax and get some belly rubs.

We did get a new ride for the antique show. We were just too uncomfortable in the crate all day.

Sunday at the Beach

Yes, that's me - Big Dog on the Beach. I really wanted to be off the leash but again, mom insists I wear it. Something about running off and getting into trouble . . . . blah, blah, blah. The water was huge. Much bigger than my pool at home. Cocoa didn't like the water and mom had to carry her when we got near it.

Hmmm, if I could just pull this big bag into the very back of the car maybe they won't notice and I can eat all the treats myself.

One of the best parts of the beach was searching for hidden treasure. Dad & I found a few things. I really liked digging in the sand. Dad used a shovel, I just used my paws.

There were lots of people, other dogs and big birds at the beach. Some of the people walked up to see what we were digging for, I had to scare them off by barking at them - get away from our hidden treasures! Cocoa really liked the seagulls, she wanted to chase them and bark at them. She liked the pretty kites too.

Mom & Dad said we were really good dogs (well, except for when I chewed up the kleenex in the car while they were having dinner, but I was really bored) and that we would go back to the beach again.

I could be Portland's Next Top Dog Model

I just entered to be Portland's Next Top Dog Model. You can see my entry posted in the store at Lexi Dog in The Pearl (on 10th between Flanders & Glisan).

We all know how I love to shop at Lexi Dog, they have the cutest clothes and everyone is so friendly there. So, when we saw their contest for Portland's Top Dog Model 2009, I had to enter. It is also a fundraiser for The Oregon Humane Society so that's a really good cause too.

Be sure to watch Andy Carson live on KPTV 12, early morning Friday June 5th, when the top 10 finalists (10 small dogs and 10 large dogs) will be chosen. I sure hope one of them is me!

The questions were pretty easy and mom printed some photos of me to include with my entry.

Here's how I answered, my answers are in red:

My name is Pinto Bean Sellers , I am 1 years old.

I am a Chihuahua (breed) and I weigh 6 lbs.

To me, a dog's life should be filled with:

hugs and kisses, walks, friends, playtime, treats, belly kisses, naps and shopping at Lexi Dog.

Big News and some new adventures.

I have been super busy lately so I haven't been posting much here on my blog. I do have lots of news to share though.

First of all, the weather has been great! Warm and I am loving it. Some days I only need to wear a light shirt and some days nothing at all.

About a month ago I spent a whole week with G-ma and G-pa while mom & dad went to Hawaii. That was fun. I get to do anything I want and they feed me special foods that I don't get at home. I think they called it ice cream.

G-ma & G-pa bought us a swimming pool for the backyard so hopefully this week we will get to fill it up and play.

Yes, I said us. The BIG NEWS is that my girlfriend Cocoa has come to live with us! Yay! I'm jumping up and down for joy and I'm so happy. She loves to play and we wrestle around all the time now. I have to be careful with her though because she's smaller than me and well, you know, a girl.

She is going to live with us forever and ever and ever. Her other family couldn't take care of her anymore and so they gave her to me (I mean us). We are all really happy about it. Well, except for the cats.

Last weekend mom, dad, Cocoa and I all went for a really long ride in the car. We went to visit some family in Washington. Mostly it was just riding in the car and stopping at different places along the way to rest. The back of the car was set up nice though so we could play and look out the windows. Mostly we sat in mom's lap or sometimes dad's to help him drive. We got lots of treats along the way but we were happy to get home to our backyard.

We have been busy working at the store and watching customers. Our good friends come in every day to visit and bring us treats which we really, really like.

Yes, I am still here. I've just been taking a little break from the blog. I've been busy with other stuff. I do have some exciting news to share as soon as mom takes some more pictures. I have to have pictures because you won't believe it if you don't see it for yourself!

I discovered this super soft and warm blanket at our new store. I really like to curl up in the chair with it. Sometimes I'll hide under it and then I can still see through the holes so when customers come in I can keep an eye on them without them knowing.

I haven't actually met Sammy Joe, but I know I would like him. He is a tough guy just like me. He hikes the Appalachian Trail. What you have to see though is the sweater he has. This is what I need to keep me warm but I can still hear what is going on around me. I have to stay on guard you know.

Sammy Joe's sweater was knitted by my mom's new friend, Laura - aka BirdLuvrKnitter on Ravelry - my mom says you have to be a member to see Laura's info. Laura was nice enough to let us post Sammy Joe's photos here on my blog.

Mom says she is going to make me one of these hoodie sweaters soon, but she will make mine a little longer so it covers all of my back. You all know now I love my hoodies.

I love to go for walks

Dad and I have been walking to work when it isn't raining. I love it. We walk about a mile and a half from our house to our store. I'm tired by the time we get there but I can always sleep during the day. Mom likes it too because then I sleep all night long.

We see lots of birds. Sometimes we see other people that are walking too, I have to keep an eye on them to see what they are doing. I hope we get to walk more soon, but it has been raining lots this week and it is even suppose to snow again tomorrow. Good thing mom is making me another sweater.

Snuggle Time

I have won over most of the cats in the house. This is Batcat and she can be a little unpredictable as mom says. This picture is from a few days ago when we were both snuggled in dad's lap. We slept like this for about 45 minutes and then I wanted to play some more. She makes a funny sound, like an engine softly running, it is very relaxing. I think it's called purring, I like it.
I don't like it when she lays on my toys though. She tries to use them for pillows and I have to sneak up on her and steal them away. Sometimes she hits me and hisses. But they are MY toys. I'm getting better at getting them away from her. I have learned to stay away from her when she is eating, she gets really mad then.

I haven't posted in awhile because we have all been working lots. I help back and forth between both stores. Entertaining the customers and checking them out to make sure they are okay. Some of them are not. But most of the time people are very nice and yesterday one lady gave me a nice massage. I am hoping she will come back again.

Here are some photos of my latest sweater mom bought me. It has been really cold here and this sweater keeps me warm, it is kind of scratchy though and I get out of it as much as I as can.

I did get a gigantic chew stick last night - I am loving it. I'll have mom take some pictures of me with it so you can see it.

My New Year's wish for everyone . . . Peace. This is my new hoodie that mom bought me yesterday at Lexi Dog, one of my new favorite places to shop.
So, I guess I'm supposed to have a New Year's resolution huh? Well, I want to make more friends, eat more treats and go more places this year. Mom & Dad keep saying it's Happy Neuter Year, I'm not really sure what they mean by that . . . . . . .

Record Snowfall!

The snow is so deep I can't even go out in it. Mom says I would be buried under it all. Fine with me . . . . it's too cold. I like it just where I am - tucked safely inside mom's vest where it is warm. This is my favorite place to sleep these days.

But if you click here you will see all the photos around our house and stores. Lots of snow and look at those icicles. Be sure to look up when you are walking, you would want one of those to fall on you!

Snow Day!

I haven't posted for awhile because we have been so busy. My mom & dad are working very hard (well, me too) and haven't had a minute to post anything.

But today . . . . . . . . it's snowing! Which means we are all stuck at home and I'm loving it. Playing with the cats, taking a nap in my mom's lap and just hanging out.

Since this is the first time I've ever seen snow I didn't really know what to think. At first I barked at it from inside the house. I couldn't figure out what that white stuff was falling from the sky, and covering our car. It is my job to protect that kind of stuff you know.

Well, then we went outside and how fun that was!

We all knew a big change was coming

With all of the excitement of the big election over now comes the important change.

Which dog will live in the White House? If you watched president-elect Barack Obama's acceptance speech on Tuesday night like my family did, you know they are getting a new puppy.

This is a huge decision and one that I know we will all be on the edge of our seats waiting for the big announcement.

The Today Show on NBC has created a poll, I went over there to vote but HEY - why is there no choice for Chihuahua? I mean why does NBC think the first family wouldn't want an adorable, energetic, smart, cuddly, and all around wonderful Chihuahua? What exactly do they have against Chihuahuas? We are excellent watch dogs and would be great at helping out those secret service agents.

What a busy weekend!

Wow, my family is always on the go - this weekend we took stuff from the antique store and set it all up with a bunch of other people in a big building. I'm not sure why we took all of the antiques because it seemed like everyone was there to see me. I thought I had a lot of visitors every day in the store - wow! Everyone wanted to pet me and talk to me and give me things. Sometimes I just had to bury my head in the blankets to get a little nap.

One nice lady added to my Chihuahua collection - can you tell which one is me in the picture?

Dad & I had a lot of fun just hanging out when it wasn't busy. It was a fun weekend but I'm happy to be back at the store today and back to my regular routine.

Fact: Chihuahuas are Smart

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm just 4 months old and I can sit, stand and dance.

My dad has these great little treats that he is so excited to give me and he claps his hands and gets all silly. I'm glad I can make him so happy. But . . . . those treats taste just like the food that is in the kitchen floor . . . . . . . I'm suspicious that he's getting my dog treats from that bowl. I'll have to pay closer attention to him.

Herbie is my new BFF. He and I play and wrestle and chase each other around the house. He thinks he's rough and tough but really he's not. I run so fast that he can't catch up with me. I run back around and bite his tail. Sometimes he reaches out and grabs me and holds me down on the ground. He tries to clean me but I keep telling him I've already showered today.

Yesterday afternoon my mom and dad took me out in the county to grandma & grandpa's house. I spent a little time playing out in the yard. Mom forgot my leash. She said she was "improvising" when she tied a rope on my shirt. I didn't really like it and was just about to chew through it when she stopped me.

Hi, my name is Pinto Bean. With all of the celebrity talk of Chihuahuas lately, it became obvious I needed a place to talk about myself, share some photos, and let humans know what we really are about.

So to start off, here's a little bit about me:

I was born June 25, 2008 in Sisters, Oregon and I have one brother. I don't remember too much about that though. I now live in Hillsboro, Oregon with my human parents and our cats. I'm having to teach all of the cats who's in charge because they've just been allowed to run amuck. This picture of me is when I was first adopted. I was about 8 weeks old here. I've grown some since then.

I'm just 4 months old and right now love to play and sleep. I spend my days at the antique store where my human parents sell old stuff to people. I get lots of visitors and people always want to have their picture taken with me (celebrity status). I'm going to have my dad start taking pictures too so I can post them here. Sometimes visitors will bring me treats or other presents. They are always welcome. I have so many visitors in fact, that when I'm sleeping my dad has to turn people away. Sometimes though, if it someone I really like, I'll wake up when I hear their voice.
